Remote, Automatic Systems Management Solution Improves Application Availability and Performance Throughout Distributed Network
ST. HELIER’S, Channel Islands, April 17, 2007Kaseya, a global provider of Managed Service Automation (MSA) software for IT solution providers and corporate IT organizations, announced today that Widmer Brothers Brewing is using Kaseya’s remote and automatic systems management solution to proactively manage its mission-critical business applications and distributed systems. By ensuring availability of its brewing system, Exchange environment and financial solutions, Kaseya enables a 24x7 manufacturing and distribution cycle, ensuring fresh, quality Widmer beer is always available in bars and restaurants around the country.
“These applications are absolutely mission-critical to Widmer Brothers Brewing,” said Scott Urbatsch, director of IT for the brewery. “Our employees need to have access to these systems 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Kaseya gives us this capability.”
Through Kaseya’s remote systems management solution, Widmer’s IT department is now able to monitor and gain access to distributed systems on the network from a central management console, regardless of physical location of the systems. Kaseya also automates basic IT administration like software deployment, patch management and alert features, allowing the company to institute a proactive management strategy, enabling its administrators to head off potential problems before they become major performance or availability pains.
“Kaseya really took a lot of the basic administration out of managing Widmer’s IT environment,” said Ken Colton, director of operations for Polar Systems, a Kaseya managed service provider and reseller. “This allows us to focus on a more incident-based business model and better prepares us to handle Widmer’s geographic growth.”
Thanks to Kaseya’s remote capabilities, Widmer engineers are able to support the master brewer by keeping tabs on the brewing equipment and software at any time from anywhere with an internet connection. In addition, maintenance can be done during scheduled downtimeat 3 a.m. for examplewithout an on-site engineer present. At the other end of the supply chain, Widmer’s sales force and support staff also relies on Kaseya to conduct daily operations. Scheduling meetings with distributors and end users is dependent on reliable access to Exchange, while paying invoices, purchasing supplies and processing payments are all done through Widmer’s financial solutions.
Previously, it was a pain to track company-issued equipment and provision new systems for recently hired employees. Through Kaseya’s powerful inventory tracking features, Urbatsch is able to keep a reliable repository of all systems on the network, tracking serial numbers, chip performance, RAM size, capacity and version of Windows and other software it is running. When a new employee comes aboard, it is easy to tailor their new laptop to business need and load the appropriate software. Likewise, it is easy to identify older systems that may need to be replaced.
“Kaseya provides Widmer greater visibility into its computing environment, giving it more flexibility in how it provides IT service to its employees,” said Jim Alves, executive vice president of product marketing, Kaseya. “This proactive approach to systems management enables the brewery’s distributed business model and helps streamline its supply chain, making sure beer makes it to the Widmer customers’ taps.”
