Kaseya Announces New Time-reversal Patch Management Feature

Kaseya Patch Management

Kaseya’s VSA product is well known for its capabilities for software patch management and remote control. Thousands of small and midsize businesses (SMBs) use VSA for network and endpoint management, including patch management. And now, we’re extremely excited to announce a major breakthrough in patch management technology with VSA’s new Time-reversal feature.

One of the major challenges organizations have is keeping all of their software up to date with the latest security patches. These patches fix software vulnerabilities that can be exploited by hackers to get access to your systems and confidential data. It’s well known (right?) that most exploits take advantage of known vulnerabilities for which a patch has been available for some time — often weeks or months before a breach occurs.

The WannaCry ransomware attack that occurred May 2017 is a well known example. The attack occurred  two months after Microsoft made Windows patches available to close the vulnerability exploited by EternalBlue, which was used by the WannaCry cryptoworm. Many organizations had not applied those patches and the worm spread to infect more than 200,000 computers worldwide.

Now, with our VSA Time Reversal feature, this problem will be a “thing of the past,” no pun intended! Using Time Reversal, when a data breach occurs due to an exploit of a software vulnerability, system administrators will be able to go back in time and apply the patch they didn’t have time for previously. Viola! No data breach will occur.

Of course, this feature isn’t needed if you are using VSA’s Software Management module to automate your patch management process. With the VS Software Management module you will be staying on top of your software patching and closing those software vulnerabilities as a matter of course. Time Reversal will be needed only in the rarest of circumstances, but it’s nice to know that you are fully protected. And, it will really come in handy for so called zero-day exploits where you literally don’t have time to patch software.

A Major Enhancement to Remote Control with Live Connect

Live Connect is a VSA feature that allows sys admins to remotely access any end-user computer and resolve service tickets without disrupting the user. Our customers love this capability! We couldn’t wait to tell everyone about a new VSA Live Connect feature called “Beam me up Scotty,” which will allow technicians who really need to be physically present at the device to digitize themselves and be beamed over to the computer in question! You can do this for computers anywhere in the world. It’s simply incredible, and no other product on the planet has this capability — we guarantee it. Talk about a Digital Transformation!

As with the Time Reversal feature above, you typically won’t need to use this Beam me up Scotty feature either. Almost everything you need to do, you can already do today with Live Connect. But say, for example, you need to replace a hard drive or add some memory to the machine. No problem! Simply put those items in your pocket and they get beamed over right along with you. Your IT team productivity will sky rocket. Not to mention that you’ll have zero travel costs for sending technicians to remote locations.

Happy April Fool’s Day, Everyone!
