There is a lot of great data in the 2016 Webroot Threat Brief, but one statistic deserves to be called out above the rest. Over the course of last year, millions of samples of malware were encountered by Webroot protected endpoints—but what was so surprising is that, around 97% of the time, the malware was unique to the system it infected, meaning the specific malicious file is never seen anywhere else.

This is done intentionally by malware authors and distributors to make discovering their threats more difficult. The technology to achieve this is not new, however, and is called polymorphism. Today, this technique is used overwhelmingly as an effective way to defeat signature-based endpoint security solutions.

Thankfully, Kaseya VSA with Webroot functions differently. To combat the rise in polymorphic infections, Webroot designed its endpoint solutions to do more than just detect threats; they also gather real-time data about applications and websites, to be correlated against the IPs, files and applications associated with them. Another element of effective cybersecurity unique to Webroot is its ability to reveal contextual information about a breach, which is crucial for responding to threats.
