From remote support to full-service MSP
Stability IT is an MSP based in Prestatyn, North Wales, supporting around 80 clients and 2,000 endpoints with a team of 20 techs. The company serves small and mid-market businesses across a range of industries and has been expanding into pharmaceutical and cybersecurity services.
Nearly all of Stability IT’s work is done remotely, which makes the reliability of its tooling non-negotiable. When the business outgrew its original remote support setup, it set out to find a platform that could handle everything from remote access to patching to security in one place.
“When we moved over to Datto RMM, things were just quicker. Faster resolution of tickets, the techs were happier, the remote access was working great, the automation was better. Everyone was happier.” Mark Davies, Managing Director at Stability IT.
Stability IT started with ConnectWise/ScreenConnect for remote support. It worked well for connecting to machines, but that was all it did. They lacked full RMM capabilities, such as centralized patching and automation. The team relied on Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), which required a dedicated server at every client site, each one individually managed and monitored. PRTG handled basic network monitoring. Everything was separate.
When ConnectWise licensing costs began climbing, driven by both price increases and a growing technician count, Stability IT decided to look for an alternative. But rather than simply replacing one remote support tool with another, the team saw a strategic opportunity to consolidate.
“Rather than jumping to a brand new supplier we didn’t know, our first instinct was to look at trusted partners we already had. We had IT Glue, so Kaseya was the natural conversation,” Davies said. That decision led them to VSA 9.
Consolidating operations
VSA 9 gave Stability IT what it had been missing: automation, patching, monitoring and remote support in a single solution. It was a significant step up from operating without an RMM entirely. But as the operation grew and more clients were onboarded, they were offered a new opportunity to improve endpoint management and remote support experience, even more aligned with the speed and innovation they needed.
Kaseya’s team then worked with Stability IT through the migration process to Datto RMM. For this, the team took a more deliberate approach. Rather than rolling the agent out broadly, they migrated a single client over to Datto RMM and asked their technicians to use it alongside VSA for a direct comparison.
The feedback was immediate.
“Straight away the feedback was, why are we not on Datto RMM for all clients? It's quicker, modern, even easier to use, the layout was nice, and we can integrate even more processes into a unified view.” Mark Davies, Managing Director at Stability IT.
With the decision made, Stability IT used VSA itself to deploy the Datto RMM agent across client environments. The team scripted the rollout, and clients were moved over in batches. Each morning, another client would be fully migrated. As each one was confirmed on Datto RMM, it was removed from VSA.
For a few weeks, technicians had access to both platforms and simply worked from whichever one held a given client. The transition happened without any disruption.
“Getting off VSA 9 onto Datto RMM was really smooth,” said Davies. “We scripted it all. We’d come on the next day and a whole other client would be moved over.”
Davies noted that this migration was actually easier than the original move from ScreenConnect, because the team was already familiar with working inside a full RMM and the other Kaseya solutions, like Datto AV, EDR, Endpoint Backup and IT Glue. Moving between platforms within the Kaseya portfolio was straightforward, and the Kaseya team provided hands-on support for the first client before Stability IT took over the rest independently.
Patching that actually works. Full endpoint compliance
Before Datto RMM, patching was Stability IT’s biggest operational headache. WSUS required a server at every client site, each one configured, maintained and monitored individually. When it worked, it was fine. When it didn’t, the team could spend days troubleshooting, and the worst part was not always knowing it had failed.
“We would sometimes not know the state of patching at a client until we logged into the WSUS server to find out it wasn’t working,” said Davies.
Datto RMM replaced all of that with a single dashboard across every client. No on-site servers. No individual configuration. Patching policies are managed centrally, and compliance is visible at a glance.
Today, Stability IT maintains over 97% patch compliance across more than 1,800 endpoints. The remaining 3% are clients with specific policies that prevent automatic Windows updates, but even those are tracked in monitoring mode so the team always knows where they stand. When it comes to compliance, for clients pursuing Cyber Essentials certification, where servers must be patched within 14 days, that visibility is critical.
Over 50% faster remote access that technicians actually trust
For a team that handles almost all of its work remotely, the quality of the remote access tool defines the daily experience. Stability IT needed something fast and reliable enough to keep up with a high-volume, all-remote support model. And Datto RMM delivered.
Davies pointed to the Web Remote in particular, with all the latest improvements and innovation is now the team’s default. Plus, the Agent Browser gives technicians the ability to perform tasks on a machine without taking control of the user’s session, which reduces disruption for clients.
The consent workflow also stood out. When a technician connects, the client sees a prompt identifying the technician by name and must approve the session. “They make sure they’re on the phone with the right person, they approve, and boom, you’re in. It’s really quick and smooth,” said Davies.
“Since migrating, we've been hitting SLAs more consistently than at any point before. We target first contact resolution within 15 minutes, and most calls are resolved in under 10 minutes.” Mark Davies, Managing Director at Stability IT.
With Datto RMM as the core piece of the stack, Stability IT began pulling the rest of its tooling into the Kaseya platform through Kaseya 365 Endpoint.
The antivirus migration followed the same pattern seen across other Kaseya partners. Stability IT had been a Bitdefender shop, which meant another portal, another set of licenses and another renewal cycle. The team trialed Datto AV and EDR internally first, confirmed it met their standards and then migrated clients over as Bitdefender renewals came up. Today, 90% of clients are on Datto EDR, with the remainder in progress.
Kaseya Endpoint Backup replaced Veeam, and the change was significant. Previously, backing up a workstation required checking available space on a physical Veeam server at the client site, ensuring the machine was on-site to reach the local server and managing each backup environment individually.
Kaseya 365 Endpoint Backup eliminated all of that. With backup built into the subscription and managed through Datto RMM, Stability IT now backs up workstations that would never have been covered before and charges a small amount for the storage on top.
“It’s been a bit of a game changer,” said Davies. “Clients always expect to pay to back up their servers, but they don’t normally think about workstations. Kaseya 365 Endpoint allows us to offer this as an extra built-in service, and we’ve got loads of workstations backing up now that we wouldn’t have even bothered with before.”
IT Glue and MyGlue integrations round out the IT documentation and workflow. One of the main gains in efficiency and time saving is that technicians can inject passwords directly into RMM remote control sessions from IT Glue, a small detail that compounds across dozens of daily connections.
The commercial upside: Improved margins
The financial logic of consolidation has been straightforward for Stability IT. The Kaseya 365 Endpoint subscription covers the cost of what they were already paying for individual tools. Everything else included in the bundle becomes profit.
Since consolidating, Stability IT has seen an 8% increase in margins on managed services, a direct result of replacing multiple vendor subscriptions with a single bundled license while maintaining client pricing
“The license cost is pretty much already getting covered by one of the products,” said Davies. “Where before we weren’t able to, we can now upsell them the other services and make a better profit.”
As the business continues to bring clients onto the full Kaseya stack, consolidating from Bitdefender, Veeam, Viper and other point solutions, the margin improvement compounds.
Looking ahead
Stability IT’s migration wasn’t a single leap. It was a series of decisions, each informed by the one before, that led from a basic remote support tool to a fully integrated MSP platform. The team tested carefully, migrated methodically and let technician feedback guide every move.
The result is an operation that’s faster, more consistent and better positioned to grow, built on a platform the entire team trusts.
“Moving from VSA 9 to Datto RMM was the right decision. We like the platform experience with all native integrations. What we’re effectively doing now is moving all our clients over, and the benefit for us is that within the single license of Kaseya 365 Endpoint, that cost is pretty much already covered by one of the products. We’re able to upsell the rest and make a better profit. It’s definitely a success story,” Davies said.
