Kaseya has released INKY Smart Insights, a GenAI-powered analysis feature that gives you a second opinion on flagged email — a verdict with cited evidence — in seconds rather than minutes. 

Email security has a last-mile problem 

Threat detection is strong. Investigation is still slow and manual.  

When a suspicious email gets flagged, figuring out why it was flagged is tedious. Admins review headers, URLs and sender signals by hand, which takes roughly 10 minutes per email and requires specialized knowledge. Multiply these steps across a day’s queue and the costs compound fast. 

IT teams are buried in tickets asking: Is this email safe?  

That’s a challenge because email remains the most common entry point for cyberthreats, according to the FBI’s Internet Crime Report. Ransomware, BEC, credential theft and account takeover often start in an inbox. Even organizations with strong perimeter and endpoint controls are vulnerable. All it takes is one user to open and click a malicious email.  

While that email security dynamic has been the same for years, AI has brought a new level of sophistication. 

What AI actually changed 

AI didn’t invent new attacks. It removed the labor.  

“AI can now do everything attackers used to have to do themselves,” said Dave Baggett, Senior Vice President of cybersecurity products at Kaseya. “An attacker can create a phishing template in an LLM for free and blast it out. It’s phishing with dynamite.” 

Attackers used to choose between volume and quality. Now they have both. The result is convincing, brand-aligned messages produced at scale and refined continuously. Emails don’t look broken or riddled with errors anymore; they look normal. That makes static rules, reputation checks and pattern matching less effective.  

As Baggett put it in the 2026 Kaseya INKY Email Security Report: “In the past year, AI-generated phishing became the baseline. Attackers can now produce highly convincing messages at scale, which means the traditional signals that security tools relied on for years — bad grammar, suspicious domains, obvious links — are disappearing.” 

The same report found AI-generated phishing emails draw a 54% click rate, compared with 12% for standard malicious messages. This effectiveness is a big reason why 83% of phishing emails now contain AI-generated content. 

Legacy email security is no longer enough 

Three problems, each manageable on its own, are compounding: 

• Gateways were built for a different threat. Static rules and reputation checks were designed in the early 2000s. They miss mail that looks legitimate because those messages are now well-formed. 

• Training doesn’t reach the moment of decision. Most phishing decisions happen in seconds, with no context and no support. 

• IT teams are drowning in triage. Too many tools, too many alerts and too much manual work just to answer, “Is this safe?” 

“Defenders now have to evaluate intent and context, not just indicators,” Baggett said. 

Understanding the intent behind every email helps users make safer decisions in real time while reducing the workload for busy IT teams.

The analysis runs on a large language model, allowing it to evaluate context, intent and meaning rather than simply matching patterns. It weighs sender reputation, message content and technical indicators together and surfaces tactics attackers actually use, including manufactured urgency, unusual requests and hidden content.
