Nero Consulting: Securing the future through a cybersecurity-first strategy
Overview
Nero Consulting started as a side-project, but it wasn’t long before Chief Executive Officer and Founder Anthony Oren and Chief Solutions Architect Roman Shain turned their passion for computers and technology into a business. Their initial focus was break-fix, which meant they only made money when things went awry. Nero quickly matured to become a true MSP with clients on retainer. As cybersecurity increased in importance to their customer base, Nero evolved once again, this time into a managed security service provider (MSSP).
Nero’s technology stack started with Kaseya’s VSA and Webroot. They soon discovered IT Glue, which centralized and streamlined documentation, transforming how they operated. Today, Nero relies on Kaseya 365 to protect clients’ most sensitive data and provide them with the resources they need to be secure without hampering productivity.
About
Nero Consulting is a New York City-based managed security service provider (MSSP) that takes a security-first approach to address businesses’ technology needs. Their clients are primarily architecture, engineering, construction and real-estate firms — industries that rely on rich data, critical timelines and reputation. Nero positions themselves as a partner for companies that prioritize and value cybersecurity.
From technology tinkering to trusted partner
Like many MSPs, Nero Consulting began with founder Anthony Oren helping others with computer issues, a side hustle that soon grew into a full-fledged technology business operating across multiple locations worldwide.
When Hurricane Sandy devastated many businesses in the Northeast in 2012, it also revealed widespread vulnerabilities in data protection. Nero addressed this with a strong focus on backup and disaster recovery solutions, earning the business a reputation as a go-to provider for organizations in urgent need.
The following year, one of Nero’s smaller clients suffered a ransomware attack. After receiving a call for help, Nero jumped into action, neutralizing the attack and rebuilding the system. This incident changed Nero’s trajectory, beginning their evolution as a cybersecurity-first company.
Today, Nero partners only with clients that take security seriously. They focus on building cyber-resilient ecosystems, not patchwork protection.
“We’re actually trying to help you run your business by not worrying about it,” said Oren.
This philosophy has resulted in a diverse client base. Although Nero’s primary focus is the architecture, engineering, construction and real-estate markets, their client base also includes public and private companies across various other industries.
Finding solutions that scale
As Nero grew, they continuously evaluated their software infrastructure. Nero was a committed IT Glue shop early on, and for over a decade they hunted for a true “single pane of glass” solution. They sought a single, integrated ecosystem that would unify operations, making it possible to boost technician output.
That vision came to life with Kaseya 365.
Shain explained, “For the past 10 years we’ve been looking for that magical single pane of glass, a solution where we don’t have to go to six different screens to do one thing. We’re finally getting it with Kaseya 365.”
Nero’s investment in Kaseya’s solutions grew from there. Today, the company relies not only on all three Kaseya 365 offerings (Kaseya 365 Endpoint, Kaseya 365 User and Kaseya 365 Ops), but also vPenTest, for internal vulnerability scanning; Compliance Manager GRC, for compliance and security assessments; and Help Desk, which supports scalability and client service expansion.
Nero’s relationship with Kaseya goes beyond the software they deliver, however. The direct collaboration between them, which includes access to account managers, support and product teams, enables Nero to resolve issues quickly and deploy features influenced by on-the-ground requirements.
Powered by operational efficiency
The unified tools and workflows accessible through a single pane of glass in Kaseya One, along with integrations like Datto RMM and IT Glue, mean Nero’s technicians never need to switch platforms.
Detailed dashboards further support efficiencies. “We’re seeing exactly what our techs are doing — and how long it takes — all from one dashboard,” said Shain. Kaseya software allows Nero to see how tickets are being addressed and how long issues truly take to resolve.
This “explosive operational efficiency,” as described by Shain, has led to better margins.
Growth continues to be top of mind for Nero. The recent addition of Kaseya Help Desk services and its strong Kaseya partnership is helping position Nero to double in size while maintaining exceptional service levels.
Building for the future
With a sharp focus on AI’s evolving role in cybersecurity, Nero continues to build for the future with Kaseya. They’re exploring how AI can enhance cybersecurity, particularly in SIEM operations, compliance automation and threat detection.
They are also exploring compliance as a service and ways to monetize Kaseya 365 Ops beyond the internal process improvements it delivers.
As Nero continues to evolve, their partnership with Kaseya remains a cornerstone for scaling, innovating and protecting clients in a fast-moving digital world.
“The greatest thing with all the Kaseya 365 products is integrations between each product.” Roman ShainChief Solutions Architect, Nero Consulting
