1 Minute Wednesday: The story behind turning community insight into MSP success

The MSP community is built on shared experience — real lessons from real MSPs navigating growth, change and scale.

Many of our MSP partners are already familiar with Greg Jones’ 1 Minute Wednesday videos — short, focused insights designed to spark operational clarity and better decision-making in under 60 seconds. Now, those lessons — and the MSP stories behind them — have been brought together in a new book titled “The Best of 1-Minute Wednesday.”

Rather than serving as a traditional business playbook, Greg’s book curates practical takeaways and firsthand MSP experiences into one place — with 100% of profits donated to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, helping create healthy futures for children and young people across the EMEA region.

We asked Greg a few questions about how 1 Minute Wednesday evolved into a broader collection of MSP stories, what themes stood out most and why giving back was a critical part of the project.

From 1 Minute Wednesday to a movement

Your 1 Minute Wednesday videos distill powerful MSP insights into short, actionable lessons. What inspired you to turn those moments into a book?

This is an easy one. For me, it’s all about helping more people. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to learn from some incredible MSPs and industry leaders, and 1 Minute Wednesday became a simple way to share those lessons in an easy-to-consume format.

Turning it into a book was the natural next step. It allowed me to bring those tips, tricks and real-world experiences together in one place so MSPs could access them whenever needed, regardless of where they are in their journey. It was about getting those lessons out into the world in a way that could help more people scale smarter, make better decisions and ultimately succeed.

What has happened since launch day has honestly blown me away. The book reached No. 1 in every category it was listed in and became the 69th bestselling book on Amazon across all categories. Can you believe the power of our incredible community? I became a bestselling author in one day.

That doesn’t happen because of one person. It happens because of this community’s strength. This book isn’t about me — it’s about “we.” It reflects MSPs’ willingness to share, support one another and help each other win. Seeing it resonate and being featured across so much industry press has been incredibly humbling.

The lessons behind the stories

If a partner applied just one “1-minute” insight from the book, what would you hope it would be?

That’s such a hard question to answer. It’s like when people ask, “Who’s your favourite child?” — not that I have kids. Every single insight in the book is gold.

The reality is, the value of each tip depends on where you are in your operational maturity journey. What moves the needle for one MSP may be completely different from what moves the needle for another.

What I would say is this: The information in this book will help drive your operational maturity. And operational maturity is what allows you to scale, stand out from the crowd and build a stronger, more resilient business in an increasingly competitive market.

If you apply even one insight at the right time, it can change the trajectory of your business.

The power of peer insight

Why do you believe peer storytelling accelerates growth more effectively than theory alone?

Because it’s real. It’s proven. And it’s relatable.

Theory is helpful, but peer insight is powerful because it comes from people who have actually done it. They’ve faced the same challenges, made the same mistakes and found ways to overcome them.

This book is packed with insights from industry legends and MSP leaders who have built incredible businesses. It’s not about one perspective — it’s about many.

When you hear how someone else solved a problem you’re currently facing, it gives you clarity. It gives you confidence. And it gives you a shortcut.

That’s the power of community. You don’t have to figure everything out alone. You can learn from those who have already walked the path.

Scaling with purpose

All profits from this book are being donated to charity. Why was it important that this project give back? Why Alder Hey Children’s Hospital specifically?

Alder Hey is the largest children’s charity in EMEA, serving over 330,000 children every year, and they do incredible work.

I’ve been a business ambassador for Alder Hey for many years. It started when I attended a networking event at the hospital and was given a behind-the-scenes tour of the Bat Cave, their innovation centre. This is where they use the latest technology to improve healthcare outcomes for children.

I was blown away. Seeing firsthand how innovation, technology and people come together to improve and save lives was incredibly powerful. In that moment, I knew I wanted to get involved, so I joined as a business ambassador and have supported them ever since.

Don’t tell anyone, but I’ve already mentally spent the money from the book launch. Right now, we are helping raise funds for a new state-of-the-art X-ray machine that will help Alder Hey better serve the community, reducing waiting times from minutes to seconds. Knowing this book can play even a small part in making that possible means more to me than any bestseller status ever could.

This book exists because of the MSP community, so it was important that its success also help make a difference beyond our industry.

On broader industry impact

Based on your recent conversations, what are MSPs navigating right now that these stories help address?

MSPs are navigating one of the most competitive and transformative periods our industry has ever seen. Expectations are higher. Competition is stronger. And the need to operate efficiently and scale sustainably has never been greater.

What makes this book so valuable is that there is genuinely something for everyone. It’s packed with insights from some of the most successful leaders in our industry. Again, it’s not about me — it’s about “we”: the shared lessons, experiences and proven strategies of those who have already built and scaled successful MSPs.

If there is one thing I would ask, it is this: Use the information in this book, because it will help drive your operational maturity. And operational maturity is what allows you to stand out from the crowd and win in a competitive market.
