Scheduled to go into effect May 25, 2018, GDPR is a set of rules created by the European Parliament, European Council and European Commission to strengthen data protection for individuals within the European Union (EU). The regulation applies to all companies worldwide, who have data on EU citizens, and violations have significant fines of 4 percent of the violating company’s global annual revenue or €20m, whichever is greater.
