Secure Mentem Report: A user study of warning banners in emails to reduce clicks on malicious emails

Security leaders know that clear warnings in emails help users make better choices. Now independent research confirms it.

INKY retained Secure Mentem, an independent company specializing in the “human aspects of security,” to conduct a scientifically rigorous study on how effective INKY warning banners are at influencing a user’s ability to determine whether an email is safe or malicious.

In the study, users reviewed hundreds of real phishing and legitimate emails with and without INKY banners. The results were clear. Users who saw INKY banners were significantly more accurate at identifying phishing messages and far less likely to engage with malicious emails.
